Alumni Spotlight: Donna Marcks Line
We are fortunate at Camp Mason to have an all star roster of alumni who continue to be involved in the work we do.
Donna Marcks Line is a valued member of our alumni and she currently serves as a Trustee, and is a regular, willing work weekend volunteer. We asked Donna to share her Camp Mason history with you all.
Here’s a brief history of my involvement with Camp Mason: In 1954 and 1955 I was a camper at Camp Wilson on Marshalls Island on the Delaware River near Tinicum, PA. Unknowingly that was the last use of that island for the Trenton YMCA. Two back-to-back hurricanes flooded the island and we were rescued, campers and counselors, by helicopter on August 19, 1955. The Trenton YMCA and other Central NJ Y’s planned to move the camp to higher ground to prevent future disasters.
The new camp, Central NJ YMCA Camp, opened at the present site north of Blairstown, NJ. I was the first girl camper enrolled the summer of 1958. After many summers as a camper, I became a CIT, Junior Counselor, then Counselor. In 1988 the board of directors changed the camp’s name to Camp Ralph S. Mason to honor its president and long-time supporter. In 1990 I was involved with the forming of the Alumni Association which has evolved into a yearly reunion and work weekends. In 2001 I became a trustee of Camp Mason representing Princeton YMCA.
