Summer Camp Update

Activity Profile: Open Activity

Everyday at 10:45 and 4:30 the campers get an hour and fifteen minutes of open activity time. During this period they are welcome to take part in various activities hosted by program staff, run by counselors, or organized within their group.  Some campers like to use this time to just hang out with the new friends they’ve made, while others choose to find other ways to entertain themselves.  Some campers choose activities to challenge themselves; these activities may include venturing over to the climbing wall to see if they can make it to the top or making their way to archery or riflery to see if they can hit the target.  Other activities like Arts and Crafts, boating, the swimming pool, skatepark, and fishing are open regularly for campers to enjoy.

One of the most popular activities to join during free time is what ever Jordan is doing.  Every open activity, Jordan Katcher, an Algonquin counselor, picks a different game to play and announces what he’ll be doing at meal times.  During this time Jordan gets campers together to play anything from soccer, to Native American Hide and Seek, to climbing wall challenges.  Through out the summer Jordan has tried out nearly every activity there is, he’s had cannonball contests, he’s played European handball, he’s even held a rock skipping competition.

Open activity is the time for the campers to experience everything they can about camp and for friendships to grow stronger.  In this time campers must stay out of their cabins to ensure their out experiencing all they can.  In an attempt to keep everyone together and bonding we make sure there are always an abundance of activities to take part in no matter what sort of camper they may be.  For the more artistic type there’s Arts and Crafts and Jam Band, for the more athletic there’s activities at the courts and out the Upper Athletic field, and for the more laid back there’s the library, Trading Post, and the social scene where they can just hang out with friends and enjoy a Fruitfull.
