For Parents
Choosing a summer camp is a big job! There are so many factors to consider – cost,
location, size, philosophy, length of session – the list can seem endless. And once you have chosen a particular
camp, there’s lots to do to prepare your child for the camp experience.
So – let us help you, regardless of where you might be in
this whole process!
If You’re
Considering Camp Mason…
Come visit! No
brochure or video can substitute for a guided tour of the camp led by one of
our directors.
We schedule a number of open house events and other
opportunities for families to come see the camp in person. In addition, a number of our staff live
on-site and are available to lead a tour at a day and time convenient for
you. Just call the camp office to
arrange a visit.
We also conduct a series of Camp Mason Information Nights
throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
These events, typically held at local YMCAs or in the homes of our camp
families, are a great way to learn more about Camp Mason and to meet our
directors.
Safety is our highest priority! Every parent wants be be sure that his or her
child will be safe at camp, and we take this responsibility seriously. From the recruitment and hiring of our staff
(all are interviewed and have extensive background checks completed) to their
training ( 7-14 days of pre-camp orientation, depending upon specific job
functions), we ensure that our campers are in the care of mature, competent and
caring counselors. Our on-site health center is staffed by registered nurses
who are responsible for the medical care of our camp community.
Camp Mason is accredited by the American Camp Association,
which has established standards for all areas of camping programs and
operations. Aquatics, Health &
Safety, Food Service and Facilities are just a few of the areas in which ACA
has developed guidelines for camps.

Maybe most importantly, we’re proud of the community and
culture that exists at Camp Mason. We’re
big enough to be able to offer a wide range of activities and programs, but
small enough so that every camper receives the individual attention that he or
she deserves. Our community is based
upon the four core YMCA values of respect, honesty, caring and
responsibility. We do not tolerate
bullies at Camp Mason, and we encourage all our campers to try new things and
to do their best. Camp is a place that
celebrates the leap as well as the landing!

If you haven’t yet seen Camp Mason, please consider a
pre-summer visit. Even for an
enthusiastic first-time camper, the opportunity to see the camp, to walk inside
the cabins and to meet the director can be very beneficial. It can build even more excitement about the
camp experience and, more importantly, can help to ensure that the opening day
drop-off is smooth and easy. Please
contact our office to arrange a visit, or come on one of our scheduled open
house dates.
Summer camp is an adventure; it’s also an opportunity to
develop lifelong interests and lifelong friends. Many of our alumni count their Camp Mason
summers as among the most important formative experiences in their lives. More than anything, this is what we wish for
your child.
